The European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany

UNIVERSITY

The European University Viadrina is a historic international university located in Frankfurt (Oder), Brandenburg, Germany, just 40 minutes by train from Berlin. It is also known as the University of Frankfurt. The city sits along the Oder River, which forms the border between Germany and Poland.

Since its reestablishment in 1991, Viadrina has become a vibrant and highly regarded member of European universities. The European University Viadrina comprises three faculties: Economics and Business Studies, Law, and Cultural Studies. 

The European University Viadrina, as the University of Macerata is a member of European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) with common values and goals in research, teaching and institutional development. 

APPLICATION/ REQUIREMENTS

Each academic year, a maximum of ten students enrolled in the Master’s degree program in International Relations, in the International Economic Relations curriculum, may apply for the Double Degree Program. 

Upon enrollment in the Master’s degree Course in International Relations, students are required to submit an application for admission to the Double Degree Program in response to the published call for applications, which is generally made available on the official webpage around October of each academic year, please consult the past call here

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 Minimum English proficiency requirement: B2 level. 

SCHOLARSHIP, FEES, EXPENSES

Students will pay tuition fees exclusively in their home university. 

To get a mobility scholarship, students are encouraged to apply for the Erasmus program Call (published around the end of January/early February of each year) 

 European University Viadrina requires that students from UNIMC pay a semester contribution of approximately €300.00 to cover administrative expenses and public transport. 

SEMESTER TIMES

The academic year at the European University Viadina is structured as follow: 

First Semester 

  • Lecture period: Mid October – early February 

  • Examination period: 

  • 1st block: December 

  • 2nd block: February 

Second Semester 

  • Lecture period: Mid April – end of July 

  • Examination period: 

  • 1st block: in May 

  • 2nd block: July

STUDY PLAN/COURSES SELECTION

The Double Degree program requires students to attend the first year at the University of Macerata and the second year at the European University Viadrina. During studies at Viadrina students must earn a total of 60 credits. 

Students must attend and pass the exams according to the table of the equivalence of the Agreement (mettere link pdf, tabella convalide) 

MASTER THESIS

  • Students can complete their Master's thesis at Viadrina or UniMC and choose supervisors accordingly. 

  • Students must comply with the procedures and deadlines of the institution where they are completing the final thesis. 

  • The supervising institution grades the final thesis according to its standards, and the partner institution recognises the masters thesis according to its own grading system. 

  • Students must write the final thesis in English. 

  • The host institution issues the diploma to the visiting students if all conditions of this agreement are met. The UniMC will only issue the diploma after payment of the fees for issuing and sending the diploma. 

  • Upon fulfilling the Double Degree program requirements, students will be awarded both the Master's Degree in International Relations from UniMC and a Master's Degree in International Business Administration from the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).
